Beginner Pottery Wheel

$300.00

Practice the basics and gain skills on the pottery wheel before wood firing your work!

Duration: 4-night classes (7:00 pm- 9:00 pm), Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings or Saturday afternoons (2:00pm- 9:00pm)

Class Cost: $300 (includes clay and firing)

Workshop Outline:

Week 1: Cups
Practice centering clay on the wheel, opening up the well, and exploring small forms such as teacups and dishes. Learn to use wooden tools to shape the clay and practice cutting pieces off the wheel using a wire.

Pieces will be covered for Week 2, when they will be turned and carved.

Week 2: Bowls
Work with a larger piece of clay to shape a bowl! In this week, students will focus on creating bowls for everyday use and embrace the messiness of the process!

Week 3: Jars and Vases
Learn the art of shaping clay outward and collaring inward to create unique jars and vases.

Week 4: Glazing
This week is all about glazing and getting creative with materials in the studio to produce unique results.

Learn about different glazes and discover how they work by applying them to your pieces.

Firing:
The works made will be wood-fired in our kiln!

Students are encouraged to attend the wood-firing event, which generally takes place within two weeks of the final class. The wood firing is weather-dependent, as the kiln is outdoors.
