Pottery Prelude is an introduction to clay and fire. In this relaxing class students focus on creating their own teacups.
Workshop Details:
Time: 10:15 am - 1:00 pm
Cost: $100 per person (includes clay and firing)
What to expect:
In this introduction to pottery making students begin by looking at how clay is made and processed onsite. We look at the nature of the local clay and study examples of ceramics made locally.
Create your own teacups using the pottery kick-wheels in the studio. Try out handbuilding techniques and sculpt your clay using the studio's wooden and metal tools.
Apply glaze to your work using our glazes which are made from natural minerals and plant ashes.
Learn about the onsite wood-fired kiln.
Pieces made on the day are then fired to 1280 Celsius over a twenty-four hour period and allowed to cool naturally.
...
Note: During the lesson students go outside and visit the wood-fired kiln. For this reason we recommend wearing sturdy footwear and warm clothing during winter.
